Infineon has launched an innovative TLI5590-A6W magnetic sensor designed for precision movement measurement at the micron level. The sensor is equipped with two TMR (tunnel magneto-resistance) Wheatstone bridges, each spaced 500μm apart, which generate sine and cosine voltages as they move relative to long or circular magnets with alternating poles every 500μm in the intended direction of movement.

This advanced sensor, compliant with JEDEC JESD47K standards, is suitable for a wide range of industrial and consumer applications, boasting an exceptional accuracy of better than 10µm when used in conjunction with appropriate linear or rotary magnet encoders. Infineon reports that the sensor's channel matching remains below 5% across the entire ±5mT magnetic input range.

Operational flexibility is a key feature of the TLI5590-A6W, as it functions across a voltage range of 1 to 5.5V and within a temperature range of -40 to +125°C, consuming only 1mA at its nominal working voltage of 3.3V. Notably, the TLI5590-A6W comprises two differential bridges, with the second bridge utilizing six elements to compare 'center-(left+right)' and the first bridge requiring four elements to compare 'left-right'.

To simplify signal processing, the TLI5590-A6W has been engineered to ensure that changes in magnetic pole length do not affect the phase shift between the two output bridges but influence the amplitude of the second output bridge instead. One trade-off of this design is that, for the optimal magnet pitch size, the amplitude of Bridge 2 is set to 0.5 times that of Bridge 1.
